Power soccer is an indoor sport played by teams of four athletes and one goalie who use power wheelchairs, which are equipped with a footguard to control a 13” soccer ball. Power soccer is a high-intensity sport similar to traditional soccer but played on a gym floor with power wheelchairs. Power soccer is an exciting and inclusive sport that combines the strategy and energy of traditional soccer with true accessibility, creating a competitive environment for athletes with physical disabilities.
“This is a terrific step forward for Chicago House as we lean into both our inclusive values and desire to be a multi-sport athletic club,” said House Managing Partner and CEO Peter Wilt. “I’ve been a fan of Power Soccer and its talented and inspirational athletes for more than a decade. I’m excited to add GLASA Power Soccer to our athletic club,” Wilt said.
Practices, free and open to the public, are located at the Glenview Park Center, 2400 Chestnut Ave. For more information on the team, practices, and games can be found on GLASA.org/calendar.
“The GLASA Power Soccer Program is proud to partner with House AC to expand soccer representation in all forms across Chicago,“ said David Rodriguez, GLASA Chicago House Power Soccer player/coach. “As one of the founding athletes, I’m thrilled to continue competing nationally and to collaborate with an organization that shares our values and commitment to inclusion—it feels like a fresh start for us and for the city.”
The team is open to youth, teens, and adults who use power wheelchairs and are looking for a competitive experience.
